INT. PASEWALK HOSPITAL – GERMANY

SUPER: November 11, 1918

Wolf wakes in a hospital bed, his eyes no longer covered.

Wolf checks his person, breathing hard. He lifts his bed covers, gritting his teeth through any pain and admires his small erection.

WOLF
(to himself)
It was the same dream. Beautiful.

Wolf gingerly covers and uncovers his eyes, able to see again. He smiles; not a pleasant thing to witness.

A CATHOLIC PRIEST, 60’s, enters.

CATHOLIC PRIEST
You are awake at last. Can you speak?

WOLF
(weakly) I can.

The Catholic Priest reaches for a glass of water on the small table beside Wolf’s bed.

CATHOLIC PRIEST Have some water, my boy.

The Catholic Priest carefully tips the cup so Wolf can drink.

WOLF
How goes the struggle?

CATHOLIC PRIEST
You mean the war? You have not heard then, son.

WOLF
What?

CATHOLIC PRIEST
Germany has surrendered. The armistice was signed just this morning at Le Francport. The country will be divided. Allied forces now occupy the Rhineland.

Wolf grabs the Priest.

WOLF
You lie! It cannot be so!

The Priest easily removes himself from Wolf’s grasp.

CATHOLIC PRIEST
I know it is a shock and that as a soldier you love this country perhaps more than I so I forgive your outburst. I am afraid it is so, child.

Wolf throws the water cup across the room.

CATHOLIC PRIEST (CONT’D)
I feel your anger. Let’s together give it to the Lord in prayer.

WOLF
Germany needs guidance, a leader. A Fuhrer. Not fucking prayer!
The Priest backs away, shocked by the outburst and language.

CATHOLIC PRIEST
I shall pray for thee!

Suddenly Wolf grabs his own face.

WOLF
What have you done?! I cannot see!

I-WOLF HAS A VISION:
WOLF STANDS BEFORE THOUSANDS, ALL OF THEM CHANTING, “SIEG HEIL! SIEG HEIL!”

The Catholic Priest can only stare as Wolf goes into a CONVULSION, almost a seizure.

The Priest makes the SIGN OF THE CROSS and scrambles out the door as quickly as he can.
All at once, the seizures cease and Wolf is very still.

Slowly, Wolf raises himself up, his sight clearly restored. A new, determined look on his face. Wolf rises with ease and strength from his bed.

As Wolf makes his way out, he passes by his roommate – a comatose LEO, now wearing an EYE PATCH, his Star of David necklace hanging on his bed post.

Wolf angrily swipes it, tearing it apart. The pieces scatter over the hospital floor.
