Tom Stevens

The author in 2017

The two titles shown below are hard to find today, but we were lucky to latch onto a copy of Shave Ice (1989), a collection of stories, photographs, and columns Tom published in The Maui News between 1974 and 1988. They are absolute gems, polished and concise, like the short stories of Raymond Carver, and a natural extension of the pointed whimsy which filled his articles in the Williams Record. “Purest Form of Entropy” alone is worth the price of admission, nu ka oi.

What we like most about Absolute Maui, beside the very useful information it contains, is the fact that it comes in two flavors, PG-13 (the whale) and (maybe) a soft R (the non-whale).
