Muhammad Ali memories

While we were boys trying to grow into men, he
faced down terrifying heavyweights with ballet like grace
faced down US hypocrisy speaking a sparkling truth to power
faced down racism then forgave it with grace by going home to Louisville which is my hometown too.
He walked the walk when most of us were talking the talk, and down deep inside we knew it.
In between he never missed an opportunity to have a little fun.
We talked about him a lot at Williams, and I think of him a lot now.
